When it rains...

Linda Soller | Jul 10, 2023

Our area had enjoyed some amazing spring weather for well over a week. I know this because I was sick and stuck inside. Every day, multiple times I would look out my window and confirm that indeed it was a glorious day. Once I was well the heat and humidity returned. The only weather we hadn’t had was rain, but then the rain arrived too. The first day it rained all day. Even though it was needed, I wondered it we could catch a slight break. That night it rained some more, with our neighborhood greening up before our very eyes. Day two it dripped all day. The rain in the leaves of the trees made its way to the earth in large plops. By the late afternoon of day two, with the leaves finally dry, it rained some more.

The old expression is that when it rains it pours. It’s a way of saying things may seem to happen in clumps. Your ice maker stops working, your AC sounds like it’s on its last breath, and your car fails inspection. Not that those things happened to me, mind you. But I think you know what I am trying to say here. Sometimes it is just easy to feel bad about the way things are going.  I tried to think of a way to put a positive spin on this situation. Here is what I came up with.  When things seem to be going badly perhaps it’s a good way to get beyond those problems.  I mean eventually the ice maker was going to break. Now that it has, it’s done, and you can put it behind you. The AC is giving you a warning so you can save for a replacement and your car really shouldn’t be on the road in poor condition. That inspection failure may have saved your life. Yes, things can be irritating and inconvenient, but in the big scheme of things if it’s going to rain it may as well pour and get it done.
