When it rains it pours!

Linda Soller | Sep 17, 2018

When it rains it pours. I am not talking about the weather, although based on the recent weather in Northern Virginia I could be. I’m talking about when you encounter a challenge or experience a problem it often feels like you get slammed with multiple challenges and problems all at once. You are late for work, sitting still in traffic with almost no gas, and you notice your car safety inspection expires the next day. You think, what else could go wrong? When you reach this point of frustration it becomes easier to manage if you have a sense of belonging.

Often, we think of belonging as a sense of support during and/or after a challenging situation. Okay, in our example belonging to a car club like AAA might be helpful. But belonging can also offer you a shield. Much like an umbrella shields you from the rain. Belonging to a group, be it family, neighborhood, work related, or interest related, can connect you with others who understand and empathize with your situation. They may provide ways to avoid problems. They encourage you, which gives you strength and confidence.

Belonging to a church can also shield you. It doesn’t mean you will never have challenges or problems, but it cultivates in each member the traits and mind set they need to face life’s challenges and problems. The church family unites a diverse group who share a common bond. That diversity provides a large umbrella of experience, training, devotion, and love. Finding the right church to belong to can support and protect you through the strength of faith.

If you ever sit by yourself and feel a void, something missing, it may well be a place to belong that wouldfill that void. A place where you’ll find support and protection. It’s worth searching for, because you know…when it rains it pours!

Have a great week!  :o) Linda
