GIVE GENEROUSLY
Deuteronomy 16:17 - Every man shall give as he is able, according to the blessing of the LORD your God which he has given you.
The greatest happiness comes from giving and serving. This is particularly true when we give to glorify the Lord. Greed and selfishness are negatives in our nature, and we must try to minimize these feelings. True giving raises our positive nature of love and care. We should give what we can. The Lord has given us his only begotten Son to save us from our sins!
Deuteronomy 15:10 - You shall surely give him, and your heart shall not be grieved when you give to him: because that for this thing the LORD your God shall bless you in all your works, and in all that you put your hand to.
True giving is unconditional when we do not expect anything in return nor do we lament on what is given. In this state, both the giver and the receiver can enjoy the act of giving.
1 Chronicles 29:9 - Then the people rejoiced, for that they offered willingly, because with perfect heart they offered willingly to the LORD: and David the king also rejoiced with great joy.
Giving unconditionally raises our spirit because the return is the joy that is greater than receiving. When we give without any desire to gain something there is a magic – we receive six-fold in return. This is true. And this is the magic of God!
At First Baptist Church of Herndon, giving is very special. It is not just about the donations, but it is a culture that promotes care and growth. We believe in giving not only tangible things to support the church and church’s benevolent activities, but we encourage giving small intangible things such as a smile, a compliment or a helping hand. These little personal acts of kindness are invaluable that could change someone’s life. Such little acts can provide strength to each other and allow our inner growth towards spirituality.
God's heart goes out to the poor and needy. Through His Word we are encouraged to share His love and goodness with others. When we donate to charity, when we give faithfully, we reap the joy of sharing...and God pours out His blessing!
