Lectio Divina is a practice of meditating on scripture that dates back to early Christianity. This is one way to read the Bible in a structured yet open way. Take time to use the steps below, and ponder scripture, with openness to what God has to say to you as you read.

Lectio Divina:

Begin by finding a quiet, comfortable space to sit with the scripture. Choose a time when you can have 30 minutes uninterrupted.

Step 1 Read: Read the scripture slowly, maybe even read it aloud.

Step 2 Meditate: Read it again and notice a word or phrase that sticks out to you. Let it surface as you read and spend a few minutes thinking about that word or phrase. As you think about that word or phrase, notice where your mind goes, where you make connections to your own life.

Step 3 Pray: Respond to God based on your meditation, offering thanks, confession, concern, or hope.

Step 4 Contemplate: Sit in silence for a moment, letting the experience sink in. As you prepare to continue your day, let yourself linger in the silence for a moment longer.

Step 5 Action: Think about where there is an invitation for you in this. What's something you can do today/this week that came out of this experience?
