Confessions from a pessimist

People, including my wife, have accused me of being a pessimist. My answer to them is ”I expect the worst but hope for the best”. My wife is an optimist and has often encouraged me to be not so cynical, so down on life. She tells me, β€œIt is better to light a candle than to curse the darkness”. My response. β€œI will light a candle, but I will still curse the darkness while I am doing it!”

I don’t know if you’ve been watching the Olympics, but my wife and I are avid fans, especially of figure skating. While I mostly follow it during the Olympics, my wife watches every figure skating competition available, including the Grand Prix, Nationals, Worlds, and especially the Olympics.

It cannot be Lent already!

It cannot be Lent already! I just put away my Christmas decorations and am still enjoying holiday chocolates, including Valentines treats. Despite lingering snow, it may not feel like Lent, but after this cold winter, I am ready for Spring and Easter!

The trail less traveled by…

Those who know me know I like to hike. Many people walk in their neighborhoods, but I prefer to hike nearby park trails and be one with nature, like Henry David Thoreau. I am fortunate to live near Manassas Battlefield, and over the last couple of years, I have hiked practically all the trails there, along with many others in the DC region.
