No Quick Fix

Linda Soller | Jan 28, 2019

We have lived in our house over 20 years. The location and surrounding area had much to do with why we bought it and still love it. The road we use each day, to go just about everywhere, crosses over three creeks. From year one we learned the creeks would often flood the road after a heavy rain. Over time the state highway folks basically fixed two of the locations, so they are passable 90% of the time. A fix for the third has been elusive. With the very wet year we have had, the third location has only gotten worse and is a problem 90% of the time. It’s clear there is no quick fix.

As our faith matures, we learn that many times there is no quick fix for our problems, or the problems of the world. This can be frustrating because so much of our day involves pressing a button on our remotes, phones, or cars resulting in nearly instant gratification. We sit in front of our computer screen or phone and order food, groceries, almost anything and we hardly made any effort in the process. Patience is rapidly becoming an unfamiliar and underutilized capacity. But faith can help cultivate our patience.

Consider this. When you see reports of violence, road rage, and young people acting out have you stopped to think of how a lack of patience came in to play? Maybe you have experienced a lack of patience recently. The lessons of the Bible are geared to the long term. God tells us to be patient and kind and loving. The story of the Bible from beginning to end is one of patience, indeed the story has not yet reached its end. There are many wonderful lessons to be learned as our faith matures. Not the least of which is, often, there is no quick fix, but God will be there with you through it all.

Have a great week?  :o) Linda
