Hello Church,

I hope your New Year is beginning with great and wonderful ways. For me, I had a nice break after Christmas. I got to spend some important time with my immediate family and my extended family on the Roberds side. After some rest I’m ready for what God has in store for us in 2018.  With the beginning of the new year there are a couple of important things coming up at Church that I don’t want you to miss.

First is our planning and strategy meeting Wednesday, January 17.  Everyone is welcome to participate; I just need you to sign up.  Dinner will be provided by Carrabba’s and it’s on us!  Lisa Merkel, the Mayor of Herndon, will be our guest.  I have asked Mayor Merkel to share what she sees going on around Herndon and the events taking place in the next couple of months.  The idea is for us to brainstorm ways we as a church can respond to what is going on around Herndon and be The Presence of Christ to our Town.  We will focus on the next few months, February, March, April and May.   The meeting will be from 6:30-9:00.  Many of you have already signed up, Thank you! If you have not you can simply send me an email at ssrob72@yahoo.com.  We need to know by Sunday!!

In the New Year I will start a new Sermon Series on the Presence of God. Here at First Baptist we talk a lot about being the Presence of Christ in this community, but what does that really mean? As we begin to see the presence of God in Creation, in Christ and in the Mission of the church, I think we will be encouraged about how easy and impactful it is for us to be Christ’s presence in the places and spaces around us.  Make sure to join us and invite some people to come and see what God is doing at FBC.

Please make sure you are reading your scripture passages.  As a church we are committed to being shaped by God and one of the best ways to do so is to allow God’s word to work through us.  Find a quiet place and spend a few minutes reading one of the weekly passages, reflecting on the passage and praying through it.   In case you need them you can find the passages here, https://lectionary.library.vanderbilt.edu/texts.php?id=60

May the Lord bless you and keep you this new year!

Sean
