Just Like That

Linda Soller | May 16, 2022

There are times in our lives when something happens and just like that our path takes a turn. If you’ve never had such an experience I dare say you will and I hope it’s a good one. Not all are.  Four of us drove to NC to attend my niece’s college graduation.  It was a good trip and we made it safe and sound, but we encountered three automobile accidents along the way. One blocked both lanes of a two-lane road on our trip down. A detour was involved. The second was Monday morning when we were barely on our way home. It didn’t appear that anyone was hurt, but the U-Haul was lying on its side. The third was more serious. We were headed north on Route 95. A red car came racing up in the left lane. Who knows what was going on with the driver, but in the nick of time he realized he had no room to brake so he opted to move to the middle lane. Did I mention we were in the middle lane? Fortunately our driver was following at a safe distance so we watched as the red car whipped into our lane and started spinning. He spun into the right lane and amazingly there was no one close. As the red car continued spinning off the highway, through a road sign, and down an embankment the four of us were shocked at what we just observed. The traffic was moving too fast and was too heavy for any of us in the immediate vicinity to stop. My friend identified landmarks while I called 911. We reported the details of what we had just witnessed and continued on our way home. We learned others were calling at the same time.

Observations: The driver had clearly been driving too fast and recklessly for traffic conditions. Yet, to his credit he managed not to flip, roll, or hit another vehicle.  Multiple people called for help.  It could have been so much worse.  Regardless of the driver’s resulting condition, his life changed just like that, as did ours.

Be safe and be the love in the world  :o)
