A Bit Unsettled

Linda Soller | Mar 21, 2022

There are times in our lives that leave us feeling a bit unsettled. Sad news and unexpected change can bring on a type of mourning, grief over lost people and things in our lives can sneak up on us. And we are left feeling unsettled.

Recently a knitting friend told me of the loss of her close friend to cancer. I had only met Nancy once, but remember her as friendly, with a warm smile, and a great laugh. On that particular day I don’t think it crossed my mind that I may never encounter her again. I wish I’d gotten to know Nancy better.

Recently getting back to my in-person yoga class it was clear I needed it more than I realized. I was sore for a couple of days after the first two classes. My hopes were high that I would get back to my former level of yoga fitness. Then on the third week I learned the studio I have gone to for many years would be closing. Oh, I could take online classes. I hadn’t done so well at that during the pandemic. I wished in that moment that I had come back to the classes earlier. The studio is another casualty of COVID. I hadn’t seen this coming.

Many had heard of Jesus. He had loyal followers and some who hated Him.  But I think there must have been those who thought they would get another chance to hear Him speak and learn what He was all about, get to know Him better. There must have been those who thought they were not quite ready to follow Him and then when they were ready to follow He was gone.  They hadn’t seen His death on the horizon of their daily lives.

I pray for Nancy’s family in their time of loss, for our shared friend Bea who mourns, for my friend who owns the yoga studio, and for all the teachers and other students. I think I’ll be more engaging when I meet people, and I’ll find a way to do the things I love in this challenging world.  In my time of feeling a bit unsettled, I’m thankful to have God here with me.

Now is the time to be the love in the world!  :o)
