So Much Hallmark

Linda Soller | Nov 29, 2021

After the long holiday weekend, I fear I will need to come down off my Hallmark Christmas movie high. I know the story lines after the first few minutes, sometimes from the titles, and yet I watch. I recognize the locations and sometimes even a repeat building, and yet I watch. My cable service offers both Hallmark networks, so I have access to an addictive amount of holiday movie time. But let’s be honest. Where else can I see so many smiles, lovely decorations, endearing towns full of friendly people, and so many happy endings? Unfortunately, not just outside my door.

Our troubled world offers little of this. For certain there would never be a tragedy like a vehicle running through the crowd watching a Christmas parade in a Hallmark movie. Can you blame me for wanting to escape to that place where people come together and make things work. Sure, sometimes there is hardship and sometimes there is sadness, but there is always hope.

Thanksgiving has come and gone for another year. We all have much to be thankful for and yet we see such suffering, violence, and heartache all around us. We try to stay upbeat and strong. Some even seem to be oblivious to the harsh reality of our current world, and we look at them and wonder how they do it. As we go into the advent season, with our eyes wide open and our mouths under masks it is important that we remain thankful for all we have. Thankful for family, friends, and God’s strong and constant love. We can be thankful we are in a position to help others, even if our help seems small and inconsequential at times. We can be thankful for this season, that regardless of a pandemic, brings color and light to our lives. Let’s face it, we can be thankful for so much Hallmark.

Be the difference in the world! :o)
