The Disinfectant Wipes - a Parable

Linda Soller | Aug 17, 2020

The woman went to the market hoping to find disinfectant wipes, among other things. Week after week she had searched. This day was no different, she looked everywhere but didn’t see any. Then the woman saw a lady with a container of wipes pass her in the aisle. The woman went up and down two aisles, but she didn’t see the disinfectant wipes anywhere. Finally, she approached the lady, at a proper social distance, “Excuse me, but could you tell me where you found those wipes?”. The lady left her cart and said, “Just down here, but there were only a few and they were on the back of the shelf, hard to see.” The two went to the place, and there were none left. The woman thanked the lady and noted at least she would know where to look next time. As they returned to their carts the lady told the woman of other items she herself had been searching for and was unable to find. The woman was about to return to her shopping when they lady approached. “Here have this container of wipes, I had picked up two, but I have some at home.” The woman thanked her profusely, they smiled beneath their masks and departed. A short time later the woman was paying for her items and she felt someone watching her. She turned and there in the aisle was the lady who said, “I found one of the items I was seeking, they had simply moved it. I guess when you really need something you must keep searching.”  They smiled at each other from behind their masks and went their separate ways.

One explanation of the parable:

We are all searching in one way or another. What we want or need may be great or small, but it weighs on our minds and can trouble our hearts. Some of us insist upon searching on our own, week after week, sure we have or will find the answers. Others have come to know that God has the answers if we only ask. He will guide us and help us in our search. He will provide what we truly need. He will stay with us when we continue to search. He will support us on our journey.

Have a great week! :o) Linda
