Signs of Life - Love

Linda Soller | Jul 20, 2020

With COVID-19 the importance of signs and banners cannot be overstated. Well, that is my opinion. Everywhere we go we see signs of life through posters, banners, yard signs, and placards. Over the next couple of weeks, I want to explore what these signs have really been saying.

Not far from my house is a small church, in physical size, with a banner out front that reads – “Love is not shut down here. Join us online.”  The colors are a nebulous of the rainbow. The biggest word is love. You can’t miss it. They have the envious location of a corner lot at a four way stop. Whatever they put on their banner is seen by many. They could have emphasized their website, but the clear emphasis is on love. I put myself in the position of someone passing the church for the first time and realized how significant it is that the church banner gives a voice to love. It says all are welcome. It shouts you won’t be rejected. It invites us to come as we are.

My take on Christianity today is that one reason many shy away from our faith is because we can be very unwelcoming. Not that we all intend to be unwelcoming. But if someone only sees signs of do this at this time or we are this congregation, I wonder what it really says to them. If a person doesn’t know much about Christianity, they may not understand the reason for a schedule or how one church is different from another. But all people understand the intentions behind love. Even if they haven’t experienced an abundance of love, they long to experience it.

People can read between the lines. Lives will be touched, and hearts reached when your sign of life says love. What does your sign of life say?

Have a great week! :o) Linda
