Let It Go

Linda Soller | Mar 16, 2020

I confess when I selected the title for my blog, I honestly hoped my readers would burst into the Disney movie “Frozen” theme song, arms flung in the air, belting out the words at the top of their lungs. My granddaughters would do that. Oh good, you did! But I guess most of you did not. Here we are in the season of Lent, and isn’t it about letting go? Letting go of things we have allowed to take on too much value in our lives, letting go of things which distract us from God, and letting go of feelings we harbor needlessly, isn’t letting go what this is about?

Okay so giving up chocolate was always your thing, or maybe you didn’t go to the movies, but what were you letting go of? Candy that had taken on a “critical need” slot in your life? I am pretty sure chocolate is not a major food group. Or maybe you didn’t see a movie with all your friends and had to watch it on TV at a later date? Again, my guess is that you survived. Did you ever try really letting go of something that once done made a difference in your life or the lives of others? It’s a scary thought, but we all deal with “scary” every day.

Maybe this year you can actually forgive or at least forget that guy who stole your girlfriend in the ninth grade. Maybe this year you can give up a little sleep to get to church on Sunday. How about if you try to give up the demeanor that you are a grumpy unfriendly neighbor just so you won’t be inconvenienced by neighbors reaching out or saying hello? We humans carry around so much nonsense because we can and because it gets buried under other nonsense and so on and so on! I don’t know about you but my back aches from the weight of the nonsense, my heart mourns for the friendships, and my life suffers from the walls put up to keep people out. I think it’s time we all just…. LET IT GO! (yes, my arms are flung wide – how about yours?)

Be humble, be grateful, and be love in our world this week! :o) Linda
