Fair Weather Fan

Linda Soller | Oct 21, 2019

Can I really write a blog and not address the Nationals being in the World Series? Important! I am not a “real” fan. I am a fair-weather fan who is now jumping on the band wagon because all is going well. I remember my grandfather laying on the couch in the evenings, a bowl of ice cream resting on his stomach, watching a game on the TV at the foot of his couch with the volume turned off. At the same time, he was listening to a different game on the radio. Now he was a “real” baseball fan.

Christianity, like sports, suffers through fair-weather fans. All those “believers” who are fast to shout praises and proclaim faith when all is good and convenient are the fair-weather believers. Hey I get it. It can be hard to keep your faith when you struggle with disappointment, suffering, outrageous actions of others, and well, you get my point. Notice I said it can be hard, I did not say it can’t or shouldn’t be done. The real believers are those who hang in there, persevere, try to resolve issues, and keep God in the forefront. Their lives show their Christian colors, kindness, love, support, and hope. They keep their season tickets even when times are tough. These are God’s “real” fans and followers. You can’t miss them because they are cheering and celebrating God all the time. Don’t be a “fair-weather” believer, be the real thing.

Go Nationals - Have a great week! :o) Linda

This week is dedicated to two “real” fans (on both counts) – Margie and Sean.
