Faith or Foolishness

Linda Soller | May 20, 2019

We Christians must be a pretty smart bunch, because I read daily in the news where we are telling everyone how to live their lives. In fact, we are so smart we legislate how people should live their lives. Or said in another way, we force people to live the way we “know” they should. At this point you are either intrigued or insulted. If it’s the later, then I apologize because that was truly not my intent. But I do want you to pause and think of the last time you felt God calling you to do His work. One of the hardest things we Christians must do is learn to discern between a true calling to action and our own self-interest.

I’m admittedly an idea person. Through the years I’ve thought I knew the best way to do things. However, knowing my tendencies I’ve taught myself to pause and pray. This pause can take a while. I don’t want to pursue foolishness when God really wants me to act faithfully. Yes, sometimes I get it wrong.

We tell people you can’t come to our country, but what if your ancestors had been told the same? Do you also work to ensure laws are fair and humane?

We tell people you can’t choose if you are going to have a child. Do you also work to feed starving children, adopt, foster, and find homes for the homeless ones?

We ignore violence against people based on who they are due to birth. Aren’t we clearly charged to love one another?

We ignore arrogance, rudeness, lying, and bullying in our elected officials. Will our children learn those things are wrong if we are too weak to hold adults to the same standards?

Some of us live in a protective shell that screams to the world, “God is on myside!” But are those really God’s words or yours? How will we ever bring others to the Christian faith if we persist in living in a double standard world?

I think we all must pause and ask God what we need to do to live by faith and not foolishness. We must listen more, serve more, and love more.

This week live your faith! :o) Linda
