What Warning?

Linda Soller | Mar 04, 2019

Here’s how it went.

Saturday – a snowflake for the coming Wednesday on my cell phone weather App. Ignored.

Sunday – a winter storm advisory was in my texts from the county. Deleted.

Monday – a winter storm watch was in my texts from the county. Deleted.

Tuesday – a winter storm warning was in my texts from the county, with details, and times. Read and deleted. It’s probably nothing.

Wednesday – I woke to snow. It wasn’t nothing, it was something!  Why was I surprised?

Heaven knows I had enough warnings, yet I awoke on Wednesday with a sense of surprise at the wet white blanket of snow, several inches deep on my yard and deck. I think in part it was because we had a similar scenario the week before and the snow never materialized. I had become desensitized to the warnings. I didn’t listen to what I didn’t want to hear. Somewhere along the way I had crossed the line into, I know better than those people who are warning me. If I knew so much why was I shoveling my drive?

Have you ever crossed that line from hearing the warning to ignoring the warnings because, well just because? If you’ve ever been told to lose weight or get more exercise for your health, watch less TV for your brain, manage your money to stay out of debt, pay your bills if you want heat, keep your job if you want to have food on the table, study for the test or you might fail the class, or just about any other warning commonly offered then I think you know what I mean. We hear the warnings. We understand we should listen, but for some reason we don’t. Hopefully as we mature we get better at heeding the warnings.

As we get closer to the Easter season I find myself thinking about the disciples following Jesus. He gave them numerous warnings of what He was about to experience. They heard the warnings, they knew He wouldn’t tell them if it weren’t true. Yet when they found themselves in the chaos of His arrest, and shortly thereafter His crucifixion, they couldn’t believe it was real. They had chosen to ignore the warnings. What warnings have you ignored?

Have a great week?  :o) Linda
