When Right feels Wrong

Linda Soller | Feb 18, 2019

Have you ever talked to your child about being strong when they are legitimately scared? If yes, then you know that sometimes doing what is right can feel wrong in the moment. You just want to make their fears go away. There are times when our heads and even our guts are saying do “xyz”, but our hearts are pleading for us not to do anything. We may find ourselves in a position where we know the best long-term solution is a truly difficult short-term solution. The expression “tough love” may apply. There are even times when someone won’t help themselves and for your own wellbeing you must close a door.

In the Drop-In Class we are looking at maturing faith. Love is critical to the growth of our faith. I mean active love, where you practice your faith by acting out of love for mankind, for society, for Christian values, and for the earth we’ve been entrusted to protect. This is the kind of love that moves you to do what is right. Doing the right thing can be difficult and demanding. Often doing the wrong thing feels easier.

When faced with a problem, most of us know immediately what we should do. God gave us the ability to make decisions and that gift can complicate matters. For while we all want to think we would take the high road or make the tough choice, more often than not we really want an easy pass. As our faith matures we will still face difficult decisions, but hopefully doing the right thing will be less conflicting. The next time you are faced with doing the right thing, even though part of you is not happy about it, just remember that gift from God. You can choose. Maturity is doing the right thing even when no one is looking and even if on some level it feels wrong. God is there to help you decide and face the results of your actions.

Have a great week?  :o) Linda
