As Fast As I Can

Linda Soller | Jul 16, 2018

A woman, taking a morning walk with her very small dog, crossed my path. The pup was practically running with its short little legs and still it couldn’t catch up. I could totally appreciate the way it must have felt. Not just because I’m short, but because sometimes I feel like I’m running as fast as I can and not catching up.

Routinely it feels like there aren’t enough hours in the day. Sometimes I choose to relax, and then I struggle with guilt over all I should be doing. Either way it’s stressful. Daily I wake with a list of things to do running through my head. Sometimes at night I write a list of what I need to do the next day just so I can let it out of my mind and fall asleep. Even so, I know my life is much less demanding than many around me.

I was trying to coordinate a visit with a friend. Our schedules were not aligning. We are both busy people. The friend said, what about a Sunday brunch? I explained I would be at church. I could tell she was perplexed.  I explained, that while no one would admonish me for not going to church, indeed some would not notice I wasn’t there, it was where I wanted and needed to be. It’s where I gain my strength to face another day, another week, another challenge. Church has helped the “adult” me learn to prioritize the demands on my time. Yes, I’m still going as fast as I can, but now I have a better idea of where I’m headed.

Have a great week!  :o) Linda

A favorite verse from the Bible: Psalm 46:10 – “Be still, and know that I am God.”
