Trust Illustrated

Linda Soller | Dec 04, 2017

Trust – definition: “a firm belief in the reliability, truth, ability, or strength of someone or something.”  I’ve heard it said, and have to agree, that the word hero is overused and therefore watered down. The word trust, not so much. Our trust is challenged daily. Who and what do you trust?

We trust the rules of the road until someone breaks them and an accident occurs. Life goes on so we get back in our cars and drive, still trusting the rules and their ability to keep us safe. We trust that a large container, called an airplane, can fly through the air filled with people and cargo, and get us to our destination. Most of us don’t truly understand how it works, but we trust that it does each time we board a plane. For the most part, we are called to trust others and things all the time. But do you trust yourself? Do you put your trust in God?

Trust is not really a word routinely connected to the celebration of Christmas. That fact baffles me. Mary and Joseph had to trust that each encountered an Angel, and that they did understand the messages they received. They had to trust themselves. They trusted God, and His plan for their lives, as complicated and uncomfortable as it was. They trusted it would turn out just as God said. They had to trust each other, to bring their best to a relationship which started on a rough road. Why, the whole beginning of the Christmas story is about trust.

Trust – synonyms: “Faith, belief, confidence, certainty, assurance, conviction, and credence.” I know sometimes you may think you can’t do anything right. You may have days when you fear no one is there for you. You may even think God isn’t watching over you anymore. Trust can be hard at times. A young woman, finds herself in a socially unacceptable situation. Her fiancé steps up to honor his promise and fulfill God’s will. Their trust in themselves, each other, and God would change the world forever. Indeed, Christmas is trust illustrated. Who and what do you trust?

Advent begins! Have a great week!  :o) Linda
