A Turn to Thankful

Linda Soller | Nov 06, 2017

Just last week we focused on all things scary. Now here we are, the clocks set back, the mornings a little brighter, and I find my mind takes a turn to thankful! Funny how quickly it can happen. When November arrives, I begin to feel that chill in the air and realize I almost missed the wonderful colors of the trees. Oh gosh, it’s time to order a turkey for Thanksgiving!

Sure, there’s plenty wrong with this world, but that’s nothing new. Even so I can’t help but feel thankful. Well maybe not so thankful for all the phone calls soliciting my opinions and vote, but otherwise I see much to be thankful for. I am thankful for the upcoming elections. It reminds me that amid all the political bickering and posturing the American people still hold the keys to our democracy. I don’t have to vote for the winner every time to know my vote counts. I am thankful for the change in season which reminds me of this amazing world God has provided for us to enjoy and protect. I am thankful for the Thanksgiving holiday which doesn’t require presents, but values our presence. To me it symbolizes all that is faith, family, friends, and hope. Even the food feels comforting, no matter what type of food you have.

Personally, focusing on all I’m thankful for and remaining hopeful is at the same time a coping mechanism and a gift. So, I enter November with a smile on my face and hope in my heart determined to see something positive each day and thank the Lord for all He has provided. I try to observe the goodness around me, the kindness of others, the need in the world, and the opportunities to serve. It’s November and I invite you to take a turn to thankful.

Have a great week!  :o) Linda

I am particularly thankful for Raydean and Micky who are in town for their annual visit, and Kim who is new to our drop-in class and FBC. The people make the Church!
