Making Friends with Mustard

Linda Soller | Apr 03, 2017

There are lots of condiments to love, but I’ve always been partial to mayonnaise. As a child, my favorite sandwiches all included a generous amount of mayo. As a much older person, I am feeling compelled, for a wide variety of reasons, to cut back on my use of mayo. But my mouth still wants creamy. So, I have decided to make friends with mustard. Changing old habits is not my strong suit, how about you? I think, how bad can it be? Okay so most mustard has a little zip to its flavor which, I am pretty sure, comes from the vinegar. I would argue mustard doesn’t allow the flavor of a fresh tomato slice to shine through like mayo. On the other hand, it does go perfectly with a hotdog, another favorite of mine. Anyway, my point is that I recognize a need for change in my use of mayo. My decision is to go in the direction of mustard whenever I feel that longing for the creamy mayo of my youth. I will eventually be glad I did, and my improved health will be proof of my wise decision.

Sometimes I wonder if the way I apply my faith couldn’t use a change. Maybe I need a bit more zip in my approach. Maybe I need to renew and improve my faith to bring out something that will be equally as good and possibly even better for me and those around me.

Have you wondered about trying a new devotional or a new Sunday school class? Have you thought about leaving that committee you have been on for the last twenty years? You know the one where you know what the others will say and do before they even say and do it! What if a simple change could change your life, and maybe even your work for God? What if that simple change left you feeling renewed in your faith? That’s right, simple, like making friends with mustard! Maybe it’s time to give it a try.

Make this a great week!  :o)  Linda
