Worship could not wait

Linda Soller | Oct 03, 2016

It had been a difficult week at work. You know the kind, full of deadlines, cranky people, and unwanted surprises. The stressful week was followed by a busy weekend with a long to do list including obligations to others and personal objectives. I remember thinking, if I can get through this I will have been so productive. Sunday morning arrived and I didn’t feel so good. Not sick enough to miss church certainly, but not 100%. As the morning progressed I felt worse. My Sunday afternoon, filled with long awaited de-cluttering and errand running, deteriorated to sleeping on the couch. So much for my grand plan. It would have been so easy to be discouraged.

Sometimes life can feel like my bad week. We are bombarded by bad news, bills, traffic, danger, and more. We try to focus on the positive, those things we want to do. Then something happens which knocks us down to the couch. It happens to everyone. Some people may feel they experience this scenario more than others, but trust me we all go through it. It’s so easy to get discouraged.

I missed Monday at the office, and managed to just keep up with emails from home. On Tuesday I recounted my weekend to a co-worker who said, “You went to church?” At that moment I realized why my long hard week had not turned to a full-fledged pity party. I had indeed gone to church. Was I feeling well while I was there? Not the whole time. Honestly, it had presented a few physical challenges, but I was glad to be there. I found strength in the people around me. I heard a sermon that spoke to me personally. At one point, during the choir’s last song, I had said, “Lord, please get me through this, I want to be here.” And He did just that. I was able to stay for the Drop-In class. Once the class was over He sent me home safely, and forced me to rest. Rest was exactly what I needed. He always seems to know. All those things I’d intended to do on Sunday afternoon could wait. Worship could not.

Have a great week!    : o)  Linda
