A Little Thing

Linda Soller | Aug 15, 2016

I don’t know about you, but it’s all I can do to remember to send cards and notes related to specific events. I’ve always admired people who had that knack for reaching out in such thoughtful ways. A small note card arrived in the mail. As I read the note I thought to myself, what a nice thing to do. It was just a, “I’m thinking about you, I appreciate what you do, thank you, kind of note.” It wasn’t connected to a specific event or activity. I really appreciated it.

They say writing notes is becoming a lost art. People send emails, or texts, but a real handwritten note is not all that common anymore. Yet, I don’t know anyone who doesn’t like getting a note. When you read it you know the writer took time to craft what they wanted to say, and actually write it out so it could be read. A stamp was required. Sometimes stationary is used, although a note on simple paper is wonderful too. When a person gives of their time, energy, and effort to send a note, the recipient feels appreciated.

What’s amazing about a note, is that routinely it’s small. It’s not a letter, or a book, it’s a note. A little thing in the big scheme of things, that it packs a punch. I will be eternally grateful to my mom for setting the note writing example that both of my children picked up her good habit. I’m sure to my mom it’s just the polite thing to do, and comes naturally. I know for a fact that’s not the case for most people who are my children’s age.

Somewhere along the way I heard it said, if you dream about a person who you do not regularly interact with you should send them a card or a note the next day. Let them know you were thinking about them, and you are praying for them. I’ve never met a person who didn’t appreciate prayers. This week take a minute to write a note to someone, just because. You never know when a little thing like a note will make a big difference in a person’s day.

Have a great week!    : o)  Linda
