I choose to believe

Linda Soller | Feb 08, 2016

I don’t know about you, but I feel so much better now that I know the groundhog has predicted Spring is just around the corner. It’s so reassuring. Some years he gets it wrong and predicts a longer winter, but when he is right, well he’s right. We are already enjoying a nice thaw after our blizzard. This year I choose to believe the groundhog is right.

Sometimes there are people telling us what to believe. Take politics as an example. Depending on which news you watch or read you will be told who is winning, and who enjoys various support from different influential groups. You may choose to believe what you hear or read, but you may not want to read or hear anything a day later, for what they say just might change. I choose to believe I get to make up my own mind.

Perhaps the Super Bowl is your thing. I have to admit I have been told multiple times I would enjoy the game and the great commercials much more on a bigger TV. Apparently many do believe screen size matters, because this is the big time of year for TV sales. I choose not to believe this claim because I only have room for the TV I have now. If I believed it needed to be bigger, I might not enjoy the game as much. I might be disappointed about something I can’t control.

Daniel was pulled away into a new country to serve a new government. He chose to believe God put him there for a reason, so he made the best of it. He was offered indulgent food and chose to follow his beliefs and established personal habits which served him well. He was told he must worship the king not God for a month or face the lion’s den. He chose to remain faithful to God and in return God continued to be there, supporting Daniel.

Some people believe God is more wishful thinking than reality. Some believe you don’t need to share your faith with others in worship or in your actions to be faithful. Some believe God has abandoned us when there are problems, or challenges. I don’t know what you choose to believe. But, when I smell the fresh air of a winter thaw, see people working together to help others in need, see smiling faces fill the church, and feel the love and support of God in my life during good times and bad, well, I choose to believe. I choose to believe God loves us, and that includes you!

Have a great week!  :o)  Linda

We already miss you Raydean and Mickey – hope you had a safe trip home to WA state!
