Now Don't Forget

Linda Soller | Sep 21, 2015

It was Celebration Sunday at our church and particularly festive. Our sister Hispanic congregation provided wonderful music. One of our youths performed a dance of praise. Our most senior member gave an eloquent and humorous look back on the church history. Our new youth leader was very excited as she spoke of her plans, and a new member got to share why she decided FBC was the church for her. I look forward to such Sundays because it reminds me of all I enjoy through faith. I don’t want to forget the pieces that make the whole.

The sermon was also about remembering. Joshua reminding everyone of God’s faithfulness. As I sat and listened to all of the contributors I found myself smiling and thinking, “Oh sure I remember that now.” But you know, I hadn’t thought about it until the speaker reminded me. Funny how much we forget. All the little things which were big deals at the time just seem to vanish. Sometimes when I’m with my granddaughter I’m reminded of events with my daughters, and those are such special memories which slip away if we aren’t careful.

In faith one of the very special gifts from God is the ability to remember his faithfulness in difficult times. On the Today show last week there was a segment called “Where are they now.” The story on Tuesday of that week was about the two families. Family one who thought their daughter had died in an accident. Family two thought their daughter had survived the same accident. Eventually the families learned they were both mistaken and the reverse was true for each. The two families are now close friends as they nurture the young woman who survived. She now has three children of her own. Both families attribute their survival of the tragic experience to their faith. A scenario we can hardly imagine happening, yet it did, and they came out stronger. Both spoke to wanting people to take away from their story the knowledge of a strong and loving God. We Christians sometimes forget not everyone knows God as we do.

This week as you go through your days and nights promise yourself to think back about one special time or event so you can remember. At the same time remember a blessing from God. Now don’t forget!

Have a great week! :o)  Linda
