Find Your Joy
Linda Soller | Feb 17, 2025
The Super Bowl is over, Valentines has passed, I look at the calendar to see what I can anticipate next. Hmm? I read somewhere, years ago, that one of the secrets to a long life is to have something you are looking forward to. The kind of thing that makes you plan, ponder, maybe even dread a little bit. Something that brings you joy. As I look again at my calendar nothing stands out. So, I looked at March and there it was staring right at me. The first day of spring is March 20th. After a few messy snowstorms, and maybe another this week, I can get excited about spring. That is not to say I hate winter, I don’t. But these past few months have not been fun. They have been stressful and demanding. But spring is still weeks away. With this in mind I have come to the conclusion we must learn to set our own happy milestones. We don’t need a card company to tell us what days might bring us joy. We humans are more than capable of finding and/or making our own joy.
With this goal in mind, I started to dream up things I could look forward to. Here are a few of my ideas, you will have to come up with your own.
- One day until my mom has seen all of her new doctors after a scary hospital stay.
- Six days until my next art class where I will participate in show and tell with two pieces that I am proud of.
- Ten days until Book Bunch (our book club) meets to discuss a book I really love. I’ve read it twice already.
- 5 weeks until Spring! (seems closer now that it’s fourth on my list)
- 8 weeks until a Road trip to a Garden Symposium in Williamsburg with my best travel buddy.
These may not seem like huge events, but anticipating each one brings me joy. And I know that I cannot always rely on others to bring joy to my world. Sometimes you just have to find your own joy!
Be strong in the Lord and be kind!
