Until you don't
Linda Soller | Feb 10, 2025
Funny how we often don't appreciate what we have until we don't have it. The other day we lost power for an hour or so due to weather. I kept thinking - oh I can do this, but no it required power. I could do that, but no, again, it was too dark in the house without a light. I kept on like that for a bit until I told myself to chill. There is only so much you can do without power on a dark rainy morning. Having power is not something I really consider until I don't have it. I take it for granted.
Being able to take things for granted is its own sort of affluence. If you pause for a minute, I bet you could make a good list of things you enjoy, own, or live with that you rarely consider until you don't have them. Most of us have never experienced not having a country, a home, a family, food to eat, clean clothes to wear, or water to drink. We see it on the news, we read about it in the world around us, but rarely do we really think about any of those types of things.
When we see faces on our TV of people in war zones or people hovering on borders we need to stop and think how we would feel in their position. Can we even truly empathize with those people while living day to day in our comfortable worlds. Appreciate what you have, don't wait to consider your many blessings until you don't have them. While you are considering your blessings, pray for the many human beings less fortunate than you.
Be strong in the Lord and be kind!
