Weather or Not
Linda Soller | Oct 14, 2024
No, I did not spell the first word in my title incorrectly. I feel the need to talk about the weather. If hurricane Helene taught us anything it was that we need to pay attention to the weather. I can’t tell you how many people who were impacted said they never thought it would be so bad. Let’s be honest, watching the weather may not prepare you entirely, but it should make you pause and consider what you would do in the worst-case scenario. I considered writing on this topic last week, but truthfully felt it was too close to the event. It’s still hard to imagine what all those thousands of people and businesses are going through. But waiting didn’t really help, because then came Milton.
In times like these we Christians most often lean heavily into prayer, as we should. However, I contend that God would want us to act as well. Consider what you can do to help. It may not always look like writing a check, it may be sending supplies, buying gift cards from impacted businesses, or volunteering. God works in miraculous ways. He can use the small actions you take and make them grow exponentially. He can use the organizations we donate to and bring comfort and hope to many more people than we could reach as individuals. I believe strongly that we need to pray in times like these. I also believe that when we do not act, we are saying our actions cannot help, and that is the same as saying God doesn’t want us to help others in need. When we believe that with God our actions can impact the world, we are giving God the tools to do just that.
We may not live in an area that is prone to catastrophic weather events, but we all know someone who does.
They want your prayers. They need your help.
Be kind, be brave, have faith! : ) Linda
