As a Beginning

Linda Soller | Aug 05, 2024

Most of us don’t think of vacations as beginnings. We usually think of them as rewards at the end of a period of time. For some it’s a period of time of working, for others it may be a period of time since our last vacation. Either way we rarely connect vacations with beginnings. But this year might be different, you just never know. During your vacation maybe you discovered a new interest. Could it be that you picked up a good habit?

Perhaps you found yourself taking advise you had been given before but neglected to follow. These situations are a few examples of a vacation serving as a beginning.

Last year on vacation I learned to pack less. I followed that lesson this year and it came out pretty well. I may have gotten a bit carried away. But it’s the beginning of a new mind set. Last year I went prepared to make something special for my nights to cook for the family at the beach. I learned this year that the food shared with family doesn’t have to be special, it’s the sharing of the food that is special. A beginning of a new appreciation of our family time together. Whatever type of vacation you have it’s not a bad idea to look at it as a beginning. We smile on vacation, we are present in the moment, we appreciate each day, we learn to adapt, and those are good things we can carry back to our everyday lives. Even if our vacation is the beginning of something not so great like eating potato chips, just saying, then we can see it as a beginning to do better.

As our vacation season comes to an end let’s be thankful for the season. Let’s not forget how we looked forward to our vacation. Let’s keep our warm memories as we look back at our vacation. Let’s try to see our vacation as a beginning to something new, better, and something to smile about.

Be kind, be brave, have faith!  : )   Linda
