Building A Memorial

Linda Soller | May 29, 2017

Memorial Day, a day to remember those who fought to establish, preserve, and protect our county and its values. How do you think we’re doing with that? I wonder what those brave men and women who gave their lives would think of how we currently interact with each other? Do those of you who fought and/or served and survived feel pride in what you see around you? Those who served protected the foundation of our county so we could thrive. We the people, have the ability to build on that foundation. What have you built lately?

Our Christian faith is the foundation on which we grow and serve in the name of the Lord. Churches can teach, praise, share, serve, and encourage, but they can’t force their members to be who they are not. Those who come with open hearts are filled and find they can give back. They are a witness for God. They build memorials to love, caring, and serving mankind through their actions and their programs. Those memorials stand as long as there are people to carry on. Yet there are those who walk among the faithful who do not build memorials. They watch to see what others do. There are also those who tear at the very foundations other citizens have fought to preserve over-and-over again. What do they celebrate on Memorial Day?

In a world where people seem to think the rules of human decency do not apply to them, we must have faith that God will prevail. In a world where leaders talk about peace in other countries while being disruptive to peace in their own backyards, we must let them hear our voice through our vote. Poverty knows no heritage. Hunger knows no age. Homelessness is not limited by race. Violence can thrive on all terrains. Do not be lulled into complacency. No one is truly free to worship, live, or work unless we are all free to do so. What kind of memorial are you building?

Today we remember.

Make this a great week!    :o)  Linda
