But then, who is counting?

Linda Soller | Jun 16, 2014

Well, believe it or not the Drop-In Online blog is two years old with this entry! Two years of weekly thoughts and one sided conversations, 104 entries which equals 104 weeks, but then, who is counting? Obviously I am, yet not as you might expect. I really don’t think each week about the fact that I have written a particular number of blogs, or where I am in time except to the extent I always have my blog posted for you each Monday. Just last week I talked about doing something from the beginning without fear of the end, or should I say without fear that it might not end? This blog is just one of those things that has taken on a life of its own. I can’t really say I ever considered how long it would last, and quite honestly I didn’t really think about the level of commitment it would require, although in hindsight it would have been practical to consider both. I doubt it would have changed my mind.

With technology what it is today, you probably think I know how many of you are out there reading this blog. You are wrong. I have no idea. I am sure someone can look it up, but not me. So if it is just me writing and my mom reading, then it is, what it is. Thanks mom. You may also think that First Baptist Church of Herndon had an ulterior motive for allowing me to place my blog on their web site. Again you would be wrong. There is no tracking of readership verses attendance, increased contributions, or brownie points for community outreach. If God doesn’t keep a score on me why would I keep a score on you? Indeed, this blog started as a feeling, my need to communicate to those who can’t, don’t, won’t attend church, and to those who have visited our Drop-In Class and felt a connection. Blogs are basically all about connecting. Someone decides they have an opinion or expertise that should be shared and so it begins. I just wanted to offer up something that might make you pause and think, or make you smile, or possibly help you feel more connected.

There are times when I struggle with topics, because I don’t have all the answers. I do however, have lots of questions. Writing the blog has made me more observant in my daily life, constantly looking for God in my everyday world, and frequently pushing the limitations of my knowledge. If you’re reading this blog it’s for a reason. Hopefully it fills a void, offers a break, or encourages you in some way. Maybe it has made you change your mind about something or someone, and being open to change is a big deal. Wow, if I’ve managed to accomplish any of those things then it’s been well worth the time to write and post each of the 104 blogs.

So we are back to the subject of counting. Blogs don’t just magically happen. Just as it takes a village to raise a child it takes a support group the size of a small army to get this blog to you. To mention each of those who have inspired me and helped me would take too long, and I fear I might leave someone out. So let me just say there have been, two pastors, one web site expert, two volunteer editors, two parents, a bunch of Do-Drops, upwards of 40 Drop In visitors, a loving congregation, a fair number of long-time friends, and you. Yes you, who sits or stands and reads this blog now, are the most important one. Maybe this is the first of my blog entries you have read, maybe you have read 103 before today, maybe you will read one more in the future, or maybe more than 100, but then, who is counting?

To all of you who see value in this blog, and offer your support by reading it, I thank you from the bottom of my heart.  Have a great week!  :o)    Linda
